Benefits of Using Dedicated FTP Client Software

SFTP - Secure FTP & FTPS (FTP over SSL)

Despite the ease of use and simplicity of FTP the lack of security when using it has been an issue since its inception. It is all too easy for today's cybercriminals to uncover passwords by using a sniffer and access information. Even if this is not the case, the files being transferred are not encrypted in any way, leaving sometimes confidential information out in the open. Secure FTP (SFTP) is FTP over an SSH (Secure Shell) connection. FTPS is FTP over an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connection in the same way as your web browser when connecting to online stores or your banks online site. Whichever you choose, sending usernames and passwords in clear text is a thing of the past, and all transferred data is fully encrypted. Completely transparent to the user - whether using FTP, SFTP or FTPS, Vicomsoft FTP Client's interface and the way the application behaves is the same. Many organisations have completely outlawed standard FTP and now only use Secure File Transfer Protocol.

Hierarchical Directory Listings

Vicomsoft FTP Client now has a disclosure triangle next to each directory in any listing, just like the Finder. When this disclosure triangle is clicked, the contents of the directory are displayed, with the previous directory still on view. You can open as many levels of directory hierarchy you want, making navigation far easier. This also expedites file re-location within the directory through simple drag and drop actions. Hierarchical directory listings work in both List and Column view.

Fully Multithreaded

Vicomsoft FTP Client can essentially do many things at one time and prevents workflow interruptions. Instead of refreshing the directory or starting a download and then waiting for this to finish before continuing, it is now possible to carry out other functions instantly and simultaneously.

Native OS X Networking Using BSD Sockets

By using BSD sockets, Vicomsoft FTP Client can achieve the highest level of throughput and reliability. There are many high level APIs in the Operating System, which are built on top of BSD sockets, but since Vicomsoft FTP Client uses the lowest level possible, it achieves significantly lower processor usage, while ensuring reliable functionality.

Queue Based FTP

A queuing system for commands is now employed within Vicomsoft FTP Client. This allows users to select multiple actions in a download scenario and still continue to use the program, without having to wait for each command to complete before selecting the next one. As each action completes, the next one is executed. Additionally, when several file transfers are initiated users can optionally use more than one connection to the server, allowing all transfers to execute simultaneously.

Remote Editing

Seamless integration with BBEdit™, or any other editor of your choosing, allows remote editing of your website. Vicomsoft FTP Client offers enhanced editing functions, offering remote editing capabilities with virtually any app. In addition, using ODB compliant apps such as BBEdit™, provides faster on-server edits and better integration, with the option to create an empty file on the server and immediately edit it.

File & Directory Synchronisation

This feature of Vicomsoft FTP Client allows an entire directory, or user selection, to be synchronised or mirrored in either direction, automatically taking time zone differences into account to ensure that only changed files will be transferred. Ideal for maintaining your web site.

Automatic Retry & Resume

The biggest worry of any transfer is "will it be completed successfully". Never worry again. Vicomsoft FTP Client's fully automatic retry and resume feature will always complete the task, whatever happens by reconnecting and continuing broken transfers without any user interaction.

FTP Droplets

The quickest, easiest and coolest way to upload files and folders! An FTP Droplet can have files and/or folders dropped onto it in the Finder to upload those items using a predefined bookmark and destination directory. Creating an FTP Droplet is as easy as navigating to the upload directory you require and then choosing 'Save As FTP Droplet'. It's that simple!
